Full Moon in Pisces, September 2020
I always feel like a Pisces Moon has the element of Alice in Wonderland. The veil between worlds is thinner, our dreams are more vivid, time doesn’t feel linear and we are unsure of what is real and what is an illusion.
Imagination is strong. Our connection to our subconscious is heightened.
Should we trust the bottle which says ‘drink me’? Well yes, if it helps us to tap into that part of ourselves which we mostly keep hidden.
Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac. It knows that we are all connected on a spiritual level. The key words are instincts, intuition, imagination—for Pisces is the dreamer, the mystic, the romantic. It reminds us that we are all connected and of the spiritual love we have for all mankind.
Back in February at the Pisces New Moon I wrote about the importance of pulling back, resting and going with the flow. Many of us have had enforced rest this year due to lockdowns. Stripped of our usual life obligations and distractions we have had to sit with ourselves, our thoughts, our traumas. A sense of control over our lives was taken away as authorities laid down strict rules. Some people choose to go on retreats for deeper contemplation of themselves, but this experience—a retreat into ourselves—has been forced upon us.
Be honest—how have you found this experience? How much did you resist and how much did you go with the flow? Did you find yourself swinging between resistance and acceptance, anger and apathy? How has this experience opened you up to new discoveries about yourself? And what are you going to do with all this new information about yourself moving forward?
This Full Moon is a time to release the limitations we place on ourselves and our idea of what is possible. It’s a moment for us to let go of our old values. Releasing all of this will allow us space to plant the new, the innovative, the seemingly impossible. It’s time to dream big, honey.
We are in Virgo season, so once the energy of this Full Moon has moved on we have the opportunity to ground into our new ideas, to plot and plan and analyse. Virgo likes to be of service, to create something practical out of Pisces’ dreams. So right now just think about the what, and later you can work out the how.
Also at this Full Moon we have Venus in Cancer opposite Saturn in Capricorn. This can create tension in relationships, but also has the potential for great honesty within them. It’s an opportunity to get real about the relationships you want to nurture and the effort required to do so.
This year some people have experienced sudden endings to their long-term relationships and new relationships have evolved at a breathless speed. Family, friends, colleagues and your relationship with yourself have also been up for reflection and review. Saturn is also about karma and cycles, so if you find yourself repeating a particular pattern in your relationships this is an opportunity to work through this.
We also have an aspect between Uranus and the Sun which is supporting innovation and freedom in how we show up in the world.
Personal transformation can feel scary. We can cling to the old ways because that’s what feels safe. But when we combine this aspect with the energy of this Full Moon we can rely on the support of spirit and know that by following our intuition, even when it means changing to something unfamiliar but ultimately feels better for us, we can’t go wrong.
Supporting this is a trine between Mercury and Saturn, to give some structure and focus to our thoughts and help put our plans in order.
Mars is slowing down and will turn retrograde on 9 September. This is going to have a big impact so requires its own post, but just pay attention to the frustrations bubbling beneath the surface for you. It’s like how when you boil water on the stove you can watch the pot for ages and nothing happens, then as soon as you take your eye off it the water boils over. Mars in retrograde is going to have us all face our anger, frustrations and ego—tempers will boil over. For more on how to navigate this retrograde, join me for my webinar on September 8.
As we flow through this Full Moon, remember that the world may feel chaotic and out of control, so focus on controlling what happens in your own bubble. Pay attention to the messages from your intuition—meditate, journal, pay attention to your dreams. Spend time near water or take a salt bath. Tap into the love and connection of Pisces and let your imagination flow freely.

A ritual for the Full Moon in Pisces
I have curated a playlist on Spotify to take you through the Piscean themes of spiritual connection, creation, imagination, universal love. To get the greatest benefit out of it, I recommend that you dance to this. When we dance we move energy through our bodies and can shift things that we didn’t even know we needed to shift. In some cases, we may not even be aware of what we released but just feel generally ‘lighter’ afterwards.
Dancing under the energy of the Full Moon is extra-powerful as this is a natural time for us to release old patterns, beliefs, ideas, emotions that we no longer need. It helps create space within us to invite in something new.
How to do this ritual
Set-up: Find a space in your home where you won’t be disturbed for at least an hour. Make sure you have enough space to dance without bumping into furniture. Have a water bottle on hand so you can stay hydrated. Also have your journal or some paper to record any thoughts that may come up during the ritual.
Head to the Settings in Spotify and make sure you have turned off Autoplay so that once the playlist ends you are able to sit in silence. (If you are using the mobile app you will find Autoplay under Settings - Playback.) Also make sure that you have turned off any other shuffle or repeat settings—you want to listen to the playlist in the order that it has been curated.
Set up any speakers or headphones so that you have the best sound possible. (I like to listen through headphones so I can really block out other sounds and feel into the music.)
Create a mood: Light a candle or some incense, dim the lights.
Read the blog post about the themes of this Full Moon, then perhaps sit in contemplation or journal out some of the things that you personally wish to release and transform.
When you are ready, start the playlist. Move your body in a way that feels intuitive in each moment. No-one is watching so you can really let go of your inhibitions. When moving, I like to close my eyes or have a soft gaze so I stay more in my body. Just make sure you stay aware of where you are in the room so you don’t bang into any furniture and hurt yourself.
The playlist is designed to take you on a journey through the Piscean themes of spiritual connection, creation, imagination, universal love. If thoughts, feelings or emotions come up for you keep moving them through your body. You might find that certain areas of your body, like your shoulders or hips, feel stiff at first and want to be moved in a certain way. This is your body releasing things that have become stuck.
The final track is a sound healing. Sit or lie down and allow the music to wash over you as your nervous system settles.
Once the music ends, you may find you want to lie in silence for awhile or journal about your experience. Just do whatever comes to you intuitively.
Drink plenty of water after the ritual. Having a shower afterwards or a soak in the bath with some epsom/himalayan sea salts can be really nice as well to help symbolically ‘wash away’ anything that you were releasing. Eating magnesium-rich foods (bananas, almonds, dark chocolate) can also help replenish your system.
You might feel like you have an ‘energetic hangover’ the next day or have emotions come up. Be gentle with yourself, rest when you can, drink lots of water.

I have been working with this style of ritual on the Full Moon for awhile now and have found it to be a great way to release and let go. I hope you find it as beneficial as I do.
With love
